The popular HBO television series True Blood based on The Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris has developed a huge fan base. Season 3 of the series will begin airing June 13, but while we eagerly wait to find out what will happen next to our telepathic waitress, you can check out or download some True Blood resources the library has to offer!

On May 5, Charlaine Harris stopped by the Parkway Central Library to discuss her new Sookie Stackhouse novel Dead in the Family. She answered many True Blood-related questions and explained she will release a new Sookie Stackhouse novel every May until 2013. Listen on your computer or download!

  • If you are new to True Blood, don’t worry... you can check out the complete first season 
  • True Blood was created and produced by Academy Award winner Alan Ball. Check out the film American Beauty which won best original screenplay in 2000 or his popular HBO series Six Feet Under season 1
  • The show’s star Anna Paquin (she plays Sookie Stackhouse) earned an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1994 (she was 11 years old) for her role in The Piano.

Con la intención de combatir el robo de identidad el gobierno de Puerto Rico le está requiriendo a todos aquellos que nacieron en Puerto Rico que soliciten nuevos certificados de nacimiento. Los certificados de nacimiento existentes en este momento dejarán de ser válidos a partir del 1ro de Julio de 2010.

La forma para solicitar su certificado de nacimiento nuevo está disponible en las siguientes direcciones en la Internet:

Usted puede conseguir e imprimir estas formas en la Internet utilizando cualquier computadora con conexión a la Internet incluyendo las computadoras de cualquiera de las sucursales de la biblioteca Pública de Filadelfia. Luego de que las imprima, llénelas, incluya la copia de su identificación con foto y enviela por correo a Puerto Rico a la dirección indicada en la solicitud. Los bibliotecarios podrán ayudarlos a acceder a la solicitud e imprimirla. Si necesita asistencia en español tenemos personal hispanoparlante en las sucursales Kensington, Lillian Marrero, Greater Olney y en el Departamento de Arte de la Biblioteca Central Parkway. Need to apply for a new Puerto Rican birth certificate?

In a measure to combat identity theft, the government of Puerto Rico is requiring all who were born in Puerto Rico to apply for new birth certificates. Existing Puerto Rican birth certificates will be invalid as of July 1, 2010.

The form for applying for a new birth certificate is available at the following web pages:

You may access these forms (which must be printed, filled out, and mailed to Puerto Rico), on the Internet at any of our Free Library locations. Librarians can assist you with accessing the form and printing it out, and if you need assistance in Spanish, we have Spanish speaking employees at various locations including the Kensington Branch, the Lillian Marrero Branch, Greater Olney, and the Art Department at the Parkway Central Library. Want to know what your neighborhood looked like in the late 1800s? Now you can! The Free Library of Philadelphia recently added more than 1,600 historic photographs from the Historical Images of Philadelphia Collection and the Centennial Exhibition Collection to the PhillyHistory.org site. Browse photos from the Centennial Exhibition in Fairmount Park in 1876, or search through street scenes homes, and other events. You can even purchase photos from the site!

The addition of the Free Library of Philadelphia images to PhillyHistory.org is funded by the Advancing Knowledge: The IMLS/NEH Digital Partnership grant program.
