A fringe benefit of being a public librarian is that we get to learn about and read new books before they are published. It is part of the job so that, within the limits of our materials budgets, we can have copies already available for you, our customers, when you begin to hear about this or that title. Beginning this month, public librarians across the country are teaming up to recommend a list of ten titles that will be published in the coming month. Here is the first list of titles that collectively, we are excited about and think you will be too. My personal pick was “Songs of Willow Frost” by Jamie Ford, which follows his 2009 “Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet.”

To read descriptions about these books and why librarians are recommending these, go to www.libraryreads.org. If any of these books appeal to you, now would be a good time to put your name on the holds list so that you can read it soon after it is published.

Check back next month when we will have another ten new books to recommend to you!
