This Saturday, November 17, the Free Library's Print and Picture Collection, together with the Philadelphia Center for the Book , will present Book, Paper, Scissors , an artist's book fair. (If you’re wondering what artists’ books are--in short, they're art expressed as books. They step out of the traditional book form, playing with the relationship of words and images, as well as the structure of the book itself.) From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Central Library's Main Lobby, as well as its East and West Galleries, will be temporarily taken over by artists working with the book and/or paper as an art form--e.g., artists’ books, blank books, handmade paper art, prints, and paper jewelry. More than 30 artists will be showing and selling their work. There will also be an exhibition of recent acquisitions from the Free Library’s artist’s book collection in the Print and Picture Collection on the second floor, as well as a series of free, klutz and kid-friendly workshops in Room 108--Folded Books at 10:30 a.m.; Printing Bookplates: A Participatory Demonstration at 11:30 a.m.; Origami at 1:30 p.m.; and Pop-Up Books at 2:30 p.m. Come check it out.
