History Series @ the Library
Code-named "Operation Watchtower," the Guadalcanal Campaign (August 7, 1942 - February 9, 1943) was the first major offensive campaign against the Empire of Japan. To United States Marines, Guadalcanal came to be known as "Starvation Island" because of the harsh conditions in which they lived, fought, and died. Sixty-six years later, Librarian Steve Wright returned with a group of veterans to retrace their footsteps and hear their stories.
