Ortlieb's Quart Can, 1940

Ortlieb's Quart Can, 1940

The first beer cans hit the market in 1935, but they were a far cry from the cans we know today. This steel "can" is shaped like a bottle and has a pry-off top.

Caption: Henry F. Ortlieb of Philadelphia is also among those who have adopted the CROWNTAINER -- the unique steel bottle for beer recently introduced by CROWN. ( An advertisement from Crown Cork and Seal Company)
