Despite its famous associations with William Shakespeare and the impression given by its present name, the origins of King Edward VI Grammar School in Stratford-upon-Avon, and the half-timbered buildings that it presently occupies, can be traced back far beyond the sixteenth century to the foundation of a medieval guild.
