Published in 1962, Life Story by Virginia Lee Burton tells the tale of life “from its beginning up to now.” The story and illustrations begin with the formation of the Sun and depict the creation of the Earth and planets, the formation of plant life into single-celled organisms, the extinction of the dinosaurs, and the progression of humankind to the dominant species. Life Story, Burton’s final book, mesmerizes readers of all ages with a compelling story and vibrant, detailed illustrations. All of Burton's unpublished artwork associated with Life Story can now be viewed in the Free Library of Philadelphia's Digital Collections.
