Searching by year produced allows you to narrow your search to items produced within certain chronological ranges.  For example, you may find the earliest items produced by entering a begin date of "1750" and an end date of "1780".

Keep in mind that you can change both the begin date and the end date.  Choosing a greater span of years will produce more results.
