Initial D with King David of Israel, beginning II Kings

This Bible is incomplete, beginning here with the opening of II Samuel. The illuminator of this manuscript, William de Brailes, is one of only two illuminators in England from the thirteenth century whose name is known. His workshop was located on Catte Street in Oxford, England.

This manuscript has been dated to ca. 1230-1240.
