Initial D, beginning Terce of the Hours of the Virgin

This initial D, illustrated with the Annunciation of Christ's birth to the shepherds, begins Terce of the Hours of the Virgin, which in this manuscript follows the psalter. In the fourteenth century, the Hours of the Virgin replaced the psalter as the primary devotional text for the laity.
